How the estimate works
Simple math, visible assumptions.
The calculator starts with your planned taco count, estimates the cooked meat needed for each taco, and then works backward to a raw purchase weight. This is more useful than applying one fixed amount to every gathering.
Adult and child plans are calculated separately, then rounded up so half-taco estimates do not leave you short.
Choose from 1.5 to 2.5 ounces of cooked meat per taco depending on tortilla size and how full you serve them.
Each meat style has a planning yield. Slow-cooked meats generally lose more weight than quick-grilled meats.
A small extra allowance covers larger appetites, torn tortillas, and a few leftover tacos.
